2005 Cook County Budget

2005 Budget

The 2005 Budget has finally been voted on and there will be no new Cook County taxes for the first time in 11 years. Cook County taxpayers have been protected from another needless tax increase.

The two year battle to get accountability in the budgeting process has been won. Now we have to protect our gains and make sure that the budget cuts are implemented.

On November 30, 2004 I stated, "The effort to cut the proposed budget without jeopardizing services is possible if we do some planning." This is planning that I did with fellow Commissioners Mike Quigley, Forrest Claypool and Tony Peraica. The outline for saving Cook County taxpayers from more waste that we presented November 30, 2004 is now the new budget.

Our efforts paid off as we convinced a majority of the Board to cut wasteful spending and use thoughtful planning to protect the public's right to an efficient and fair government.

The Cook County tradition of over-taxation and wasteful spending has finally been broken. The 2005 budget reflects a new day in Cook County. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent you on this historic issue.
