Hello Friends of Perkins Woods,
In the past, you've volunteered to help out in Perkins Woods, mainly on occasional winter workdays or at our annual garlic mustard pull. Or you've volunteered through the Forest Preserve District of Cook County volunteer website.
Today we are starting a new program: we will be holding Volunteer Workdays in the woods every Sunday morning from 9-11:30, starting on Sunday, September 27.
We have lots of work to do in Perkins: watering new plants, pulling buckthorn, cutting buckthorn, cutting back grape vines. No experience is necessary - we will give you orientation for your morning.
We have just planted 56 shrubs to enhance the habitat for birds. Shrubs, including chokecherry, American Plum, American Hazelnut, Red Osier Dogwood, Wild Gooseberry and Blue Beech. They are all in cages, protected from rabbits. When they mature, they should be beautiful.
For workdays, we will be wearing masks. Please bring your own tools - a shovel or a trowel - and water. We will provide loppers and saws if needed.
Please let me know if you are available to be part of the Perkins Woods team. We ask that people register ahead for any particular Sunday, as we are limited to the number of people who can work in the woods at any one time.
To tell us you are interested and available, please reply to libbyhill@comcast.net. Details will follow. Please do not Reply All.
Also, please let me know if you'd like to remove your name from this list. And please let me know if you have questions.
Thanks in advance, we hope to see you in Perkins.
