A message from Niles Township Assessor, Scott Bagnall

Special to suffredin.org

Hello Niles Township 11/16/20

Pursuant to the Cook County Department of Public Health (and other) advisories, we are going to change the office procedures to keep our taxpayers, partners and employees safe.

Deputy Assessor Julie and I will still provide all, and even more, taxpayer services as we have in the past, the only difference will be in the procedure.

So – until further notice – we will not have in-office appointments or walk-ins.

E-mail and telephone will work just fine, albeit not as much fun as coming to the office.

E-mail is the best practice. You can send an e-mail to Assessor@NilesTownshipGov.com. Or, you can go to NilesTownshipAssessor.com and send us a direct e-mail from the website home page.

Either way, please give us something to work with. In your e-mail tell us as much as you feel like about what it is that we can help you with, but give us something.

If you need to telephone instead of using e-mail then leave a detailed voice mail message, again give us something to work with.

We are currently dealing with filing certificates of error for taxpayers who did not receive 2019 and/or earlier tax year exemptions.

We expect to process the 2020 property tax year exemptions in February, 2021 (remember – the tax year lags behind the calendar year).

At some point, and I do not know exactly when just now, we will be filing 2020 assessed value appeals to the Cook County Board of Review. When I have a better date I will notify the email list.

If you received this email directly from my office then you are on the e-mail list. Please tell friends and neighbors who did not receive this e-mail that they may want to go to NilesTownshipAssessor.com and sign up.

We do get quite a number of inquiries, mostly real estate and estate issues, that fall outside of the usual property tax matters. With these I am willing to help Niles Township residents (remember – I am an attorney) whenever possible.

Don’t miss the Niles Township fall paper shred this Saturday, November 21, 2020. The paper shred hours of operation will be noon until 1:30 pm. I can’t say when we will schedule the next shred so gather all of your confidential papers and bring them to our two truck shredding extravaganza, yes – really – dual trucks in November at the Township.
