Cook County officials say two inmate deaths were suicidesFriday, July 28, 2006 Chicago Tribune by Associated Press CHICAGO -- Two inmates found dead in their cells at the Cook County Jail this week both committed suicide, officials said. Michael McAndrews, 47, was found Thursday hanging in his cell by a bed sheet, said sheriff's police spokesman Bill Cunningham. A second inmate, Keith Aldridge, 26, was found Tuesday, also hanging by a bed sheet. McAndrews of Chicago was awaiting trial on a charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He had been in custody since Friday, when his bond was set at $175, 000. Aldridge was from suburban Milwaukee. County officials said the jail averages about two suicides a year and that this week's were the first for 2006. They called the timing of the deaths a coincidence.
