Another jail suicideFriday, July 28, 2006
Daily Southtown Cook County Jail typically averages two suicides a year, but it's now had two in three days, including one Thursday morning.
Inmate Michael McAndrews, 47, was awaiting trial for failing to register as a sex offender. He hanged himself early Thursday, using a bedsheet in his cell in Division 9 of the jail, sheriff's department spokesman Bill Cunningham said.
Keith Aldridge, 26, of suburban Milwaukee, was awaiting trial on drug possession charges. He also hanged himself with a bedsheet Tuesday in his Division 1 cell, Cunningham said.
He said the incidents appear unrelated, and neither prisoner was sharing a cell.
