Hearings set on Stroger's plans

Friday, October 19, 2007
Chicago Sun-Times
by STEVE PATTERSON

Virtually every Cook County official is getting a bigger budget -- and more jobs -- under budget plans presented by Board President Todd Stroger.
That includes commissioners, who now are being asked to approve Stroger's plan to add 6 cents more to every gallon of gas, $20 more each month for parking, 2 percent more to your shopping bill and 2.8 percent more to the Forest Preserve's share of property taxes.
A series of public hearings begins next week, allowing you to voice your opinion of the plans: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oak Forest Hospital auditorium; 6 p.m. Thursday, Maywood courthouse (Forest Preserve only); 10 a.m. Oct. 26, Cook County building; 2 p.m., Oct. 29, Cook County building (Forest Preserve only); 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30, Skokie courthouse, and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6, Proviso East High School.
To find out who your commissioner is, go to www.co.cook.il.us/ commissioners.htm.
