COMMISSIONER LARRY SUFFREDIN OPPOSES BLANKET $3.7 BILLION BONDING AUTHORITY FOR STROGERFriday, September 19, 2008 Special to suffredin.org Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin along with Commissioners Forrest Claypool and Mike Quigley lead the opposition to President Todd Stroger’s request for blanket authority to issue bonds with a face value of up to $3.75 BILLION. The Stroger proposal would allow the Board President to act without getting Board approval first on any financing.
Commissioner Suffredin lead the fight to bring “prudent financial management” practices to the ordinance. His efforts to guarantee that “prior Board approval” be necessary before borrowing or refinancing debt were rejected by the Stroger allies including four Republican Commissioners. The majority of the Board voted 12-4 to give President Stroger the ability to act on his own without prior Board approval.
