Stroger chief of staff resigns, to take job with county treasurer Wednesday, August 04, 2010 Chicago Sun-Times by Lisa Donovan Cook County Board President Todd Stroger's chief of staff is
resigning, part of an expected exodus of political appointees who are
likely to be shown the door when a new administration takes over after
the Nov. 2 election.
Chief of staff Joe Fratto, 55 and hailing from Bridgeport, is leaving
in August for another county job: chief of staff for Cook County
Treasurer Maria Pappas.
Pappas is charged with collecting the county's property tax bills. Her current chief of staff is retiring.
The move means Fratto will continue a career in government that goes
back to 1981 when he worked at the Chicago Park District, moving from
the job of comptroller to deputy superintendent. He went on to be a
trustee of the district's employee retirement fund and joined the
Stroger administration as comptroller in 2007 before taking the chief of
staff job in 2008.
Fratto, whose annual salary is $181,867, is expected to take a pay cut. The deputy treasurer he is replacing earns $151,130.
