Forest Preserve District Celebrates Milestone

Wednesday, May 29, 2013
Special to suffredin.org

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County is celebrating a milestone! Please join us as we launch our Centennial Anniversary and discuss our plans to educate and engage area residents for our next 100 years of conserving and protecting nature.

As one of the Chicago area's most important assets, our Forest Preserves are at the core of helping to make our region great. These beautiful and biologically rich natural areas provide health and wellness benefits; contribute to the economic success of our region and offer outdoor recreation and environmental education opportunities for all citizens of Cook County and beyond.

Forest Preserve Board President Toni Preckwinkle and General Superintendent Arnold Randall will honor the legacy and share their vision for the future of the Forest Preserves, highlighting the important work the District and its partners are undertaking to plan for the next century.

The program will include:

A keynote address by Audrey Peterman, an advocate for the outdoors and author of Our True Nature and Legacy on the Land: A Black Couple Discovers Our National Inheritance and Tells Why Every American Should Care.

A panel discussion moderated by Bill Kurtis with Audrey Peterman, Arnold Randall and Wendy Paulson (an active civic leader in the conservation of nature).

An opportunity to learn about a Next Century Conservation Plan now underway with partners Openlands and Metropolis Strategies.

A chance to explore the national conversation about the role of nature in our urban future, led by The Center for Humans and Nature.

Information about how you can join the campaign to ensure that the vision to protect nature and engage citizens continues over the next 100 years.

An opportunity to network with other leaders and Forest Preserve supporters.
