First West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes Found in Glenview

Thursday, July 11, 2013
Special to suffredin.org

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMD) has found the first West Nile virus positive mosquito pools to occur in Glenview this year. Two pools of mosquitos were collected in Glenview on July 8, 2013, and tested via RAMP in the NSMD lab on July 10, 2013. These samples will be sent to the Illinois Natural History Survey for additional testing via RT-PCR. The NSMAD reminds residents to protect themselves by avoiding outdoor activity around dawn and dusk, covering exposed skin with loose fitting, light colored clothing and wearing repellent. Residents should also check around their homes and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sources particularly any items that can hold water. If it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.
