Cook County Land Bank hires new executive director

An executive of a Chicago non-profit that specializes in community development financing is taking over as the new leader of the Cook County Land Bank Authority.
Robert Rose, 44, chief operating officer of the Chicago Community Loan Fund, has been hired as the land bank's second executive director in two years, succeeding Brian White, who left in January. The land bank's board approved the appointment at a meeting yesterday.
The Cook County Board created the land bank in 2013 to address the area's vacant housing problem, which was compounded by the recession and residential real estate crash. The land bank is acquiring vacant properties and working with developers to fix them up.
Rose has worked since 2012 at the Chicago Community Loan Fund, which lends money to finance community development projects, according to the group's website. Before that, he managed a $170 million loan portfolio as director of commercial real estate for Urban Partnerhsip Bank.
“Rob has an incredibly impressive background in real estate, community development and finance coupled with a gift of seeing the big picture without missing any of the details needed to execute” Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer, chairman of land bank's board, said in a statement.
Rose also has worked for apartment developer Lynd and for GE Capital. He has an MBA from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and an undergraduate degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas.
“I am not only excited, but also passionate about the opportunity to have an impact in this city and county,” Rose said in the statement. “The Cook County Land Bank has a real opportunity to transform how foreclosures and vacancies are addressed in this region.”
Rose was not immediately available.
The Chicago Tribune first reported the news of Rose's appointment.
