Hinsdale Land Grab

The Village of Hinsdale has requested that the District lease 30 acres of forested land on which they would build two soccer fields, a restroom facility and remodel an existing baseball diamond. I am opposed to this request, as it is contrary to the Forest Preserve District’s mission and land use policy ordinance, and it sets a disturbing precedent for similar requests in the future. Hinsdale’s proposal is opposed by countless environmental groups, District staff and the District’s President’s Community Advisory Council.

On September 2, 2009, the Board of Commissioners unwisely granted authority for the District to continue negotiations with the Village on this irresponsible project. I will continue to fight this proposal and work to protect the District’s holdings.

Des Plaines Casino Easement

On February 10, 2010, the Forest Preserve District Board of Commissioners referred a request from the City of Des Plaines for temporary and permanent easements of land related to the construction of a casino. Below find information regarding the request.

Backup

Workforce

Improving operations within the Forest Preserve District workforce needs to be a priority. We must work in a more cooperative way with the Cities and Villages where forest preserves are located to coordinate work projects. Partnering with municipalities and other outside agencies is an important means of increasing the District’s capacity to care for the preserves.
