Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Beginning of North Branch Trail Extension
Paved trail will extend 3 miles south, to Gompers Park in Chicago
WHAT: Forest Preserves of Cook County General Superintendent Arnold Randall and Chicago Alderman Margaret Laurino (39th) will be joined by other elected officials as well as representatives from local and state transportation agencies and advocates for a groundbreaking ceremony for the south extension of the North Branch Trail.
The extension of the first 1.8 mile segment will start near Caldwell and Devon Avenues in Chicago to Forest Glen. The second phase will include an additional 1.2 miles of paved trail further south to Gompers Park near Irene C. Hernandez Woods.
Once complete, the North Branch Trail will also connect to the future Weber Spur Trail, as well as Chicago’s on-street bike lanes.
The North Branch Trail offers residents and visitors a connection from the City of Chicago into the scenic trails within the Forest Preserves of Cook County, which extend as far north to Chicago Botanic Garden and into Lake County.
