Celebrate Arbor Day with the Forest Preserves of Cook County

Enjoy tree planting, tree climbing and more

Join the Forest Preserves of Cook County to celebrate the grandeur of trees and learn why they’re vital to our community and our world from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, during the annual Arbor Day Celebration at Bunker Hill Forest Preserve, 6800 N Caldwell in Chicago.

“During the event, we will have programming about trees and their importance to both our environment and our lives, including tree ring analysis, what common things are made from trees, and what would happen to ecosystems without trees,” explains Stephen DeFalco, a program coordinator with the Forest Preserves.

Attendees can also enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities including tree planting, tree climbing, tree identification hikes, scavenger hunts, art projects and more. Beginning at 1 p.m., the Forest Preserve Foundation will host a brief program honoring people who have donated trees or benches in the last year, and the first of five tree plantings will follow.

The Arbor Day Celebration is free to attend. For more information, call the Forest Preserves at 312-415-2970 and email experience.nature@cookcountyil.gov.
