Postcards from the North Branch Trail
From August 11 to October 15, the Forest Preserves of Cook County challenges you to send Postcards from the North Branch Trail.

Explore the North Branch Trail and post a selfie or photo from any or all of the six giant postcards along the way. Post your photos to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #NBTpostcard to be entered to win Forest Preserves prizes.

Once your photo is posted to social media using the hashtag #NBTpostcard, you will be entered into a drawing to win a Forest Preserves swag bag and/or a prize of various Forest Preserves experiences.

Contest Dates

Please note these important dates and deadlines:

  • August 11 – October 15 – Submission period via Instagram, Twitter or Facebook
  • October 20 – Final winners contacted via the same platform that they used to submit the photo (Instagram, Twitter or Facebook)

Entering the Contest

Enter the contest by posting a photo taken along the North Branch Trail at one of our social stations or other scenic location on the North Branch Trail:

  • Instagram – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard hashtag and a mention of @FPDCC.
  • Twitter – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard hashtag and a mention of @FPDCC.
  • Facebook – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard hashtag directly on our Facebook page.

To officially enter the contest, make sure to follow these guidelines for your submission*:

  • Photo – All photographs must have been taken along the North Branch Trail in the Forest Preserves of Cook County (this includes the Chicago Botanic Garden).
  • Tag & Mention – All submissions to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook must include the #NBTpostcard hashtag to be officially entered in the contest. On Instagram and Twitter you must also mention the Forest Preserves official account (@FPDCC) in your post. On Facebook you must post your photo directly on our page (facebook.com/FPDCC).

Postcards from the North Branch Trail Contest Official Rules

General Rules

Photos including nudity, profanity, commercial or political interests, graffiti, or anything wildly off-topic are strictly prohibited. The Forest Preserve District of Cook County reserves the right to disqualify any photographs that are deemed inappropriate.

Submission Requirements

Photos eligible for the Postcards from the North Branch Trail contest must be submitted via Instagram, Twitter or Facebook between August 11, 2017 and October 15, 2017. Entries received after or before this period will not be eligible for prize drawings. To be eligible for the contest, photos must be submitted in one of the following formats:

Instagram – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard tag and a mention of @FPDCC.

Twitter – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard tag and a mention of @FPDCC.

Facebook – Post your photo with the #NBTpostcard tag directly on our page (facebook.com/FPDCC).

All entries must meet these requirements:

Photo – All photographs must have been taken along the North Branch Trail in the Forest Preserves (this includes the Chicago Botanic Garden), during the period of the contest (August 11, 2017 to October 15, 2017).

Tag & Mention – All submissions to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook must include the #NBTpostcard tag to be officially entered in the contest. On Instagram and Twitter you must also mention the Forest Preserves official account (@FPDCC) in your post. On Facebook you must post your photo directly on our page (facebook.com/FPDCC).

Deadlines

August 11, 2017 through October 15, 2017 – Submission period via Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

Each week during the nine-week contest period, there will be a drawing from all posts to win Forest Preserves swag bags. At least two swag bags will be awarded each week. Prizes included in swag bags are less than $10 per item. The winners will be notified via their submission method (Instagram, Facebook or Twitter) and must respond within 5 business days to provide their address or coordinate pick-up of their prize.

Throughout and at the end of the nine-week contest, the Forest Preserves will conduct drawings from all eligible posts to receive Forest Preserves prizes which may include:

  • Free two-hour canoe/kayak rentals ($40 value)
  • Chicago Botanic Garden gift certificate ($200 value)
  • Forest Preserves Golf Passes (Foursome of golf. $190 value)
  • Go Ape Treetop Adventure & Zipline Course Family Pack (Free admission for 4 ages 10 and up. $232 value)
  • Free Picnic with Small Shelter Rental in the Forest Preserves for 25-99 attendees (The value of the certificate is $80 for a Cook County Resident, or $88 for nonresidents.)
  • Four-hour Bicycle Rental Voucher ($28 value)

The winners will be notified via their submission method (Instagram, Facebook or Twitter) and must respond within 5 business days to provide their address or coordinate pick-up of their prize. Final winners will be notified by October 20.

The Forest Preserves reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) or prize(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.

Winning Photos

All eligible entries will be entered into the contest. Winners will be drawn at random from all entries. Individuals can be entered into the contest multiple times, with 6 being the maximum number of contest entries per social media account. The winners will be notified via their submission method (Instagram, Facebook or Twitter) and must respond within 5 business days to provide their address or coordinate pick-up of their prize. Parental consent required to release prizes to individuals under the age of 18.

Photo Rights

You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit. You grant the Forest Preserves rights to use your photograph in conjunction with promotion of the 2017 Postcards from the North Branch Trail contest upon submission.

How the Forest Preserves would use photos entered in the 2017 Postcards from the North Branch Trail contest:

  • Retweet on Twitter
  • Share on our Facebook page
  • Repost a photo on Instagram*

*The Forest Preserves would still actively seek permission for photos on Instagram—because that would require us to repost the photo from our account (there is no retweet/share functionality).

  • Staff employed by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Chicago Zoological Society may participate, but are not eligible to win prizes.

  • Please note that participation in the North Branch Trail Challenge shall have no impact, positive or negative, with respect to a participant’s current business relationship with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, if any, or with respect to any actual or potential response by participant to the Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s requests for proposals/quotations and/or bids.
  • Contest winners under the age of 18 will be required to submit a release filled out by parent or guardian in order to claim prize.
  • No purchase is necessary to participate in the Postcards from the North Branch Trail contest.
