Chicago health system to add 240+ jobs

Written by Alyssa Rege | October 15, 2018 | Print | Email

Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago will reportedly add at least 240 jobs in 2019 to keep up with the system's growth, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

A spokesperson confirmed to Crain's the system will add a total of 243 jobs in fiscal year 2019. Roughly 150 of those hired will be care managers who were hired as contract employees tasked with ensuring the system could accommodate an increase in patients. Physicians and physician assistants will reportedly account for about 40 new employees, while 40 more employees will be environmental workers focused on cleaning and maintaining the system's central campus facilities.

The Cook County Board, which runs the health system, expects a $647 million increase in revenue next fiscal year for the system's Medicaid managed care program, called CountyCare, the report states. Approximately 335,000 individuals belong to CountyCare, Crain's reports.

M. Hill Hammock, chairman of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System board of directors, told the publication 62 percent of the county's proposed $5.9 billion budget for fiscal year 2019 is expected to go toward the health system.
