Niles seeks volunteers for first ‘spring cleanup’ at four outdoor sites
The village of Niles is looking for volunteers to help launch its very first community cleanup day this month.
The Niles Spring Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Katie Schneider, community engagement coordinator for the village of Niles, said volunteers are sought to help clean up four locations in the village: The village’s stormwater retention area next to Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church on Greenwood Avenue; the Cook County Forest Preserve field at 6811 Oakton St., west of Caldwell Avenue; the Farm on Franks Community Garden, 7087 N. Franks Ave.; and the parkways of residential areas abutting Maryhill Cemetery on Main, Washington and Monroe Streets.
This is the very first time the village is hosting a community clean-up, Schneider said.
“The village is always working to encourage volunteerism and engagement in our community,” she said. “This event is in conjunction with Earth Day and was a good outdoor option where social distancing measures could be accomplished.”
According to the village, work will consist of collecting trash, light yard work and mulching of young trees.
Volunteers of all ages are invited, but participants must provide their own transportation, according to the village. Volunteers will meet at the Farm on Franks site.
Registration is required and must be completed by April 19, according to the village. To register, email jco@vniles.com with the names of all interested volunteers, address, phone number, T-shirt sizes and ages of any children under 15.
For more information call 847-588-8420.
