COOK COUNTY, IL -- Cook County voters will get to weigh in on various referendum issues in addition to voting for candidates in the gubernatorial election on Nov. 6. All of the county-wide questions are advisory, which means it will have no binding action but could spark legislation for it to be put into law.

One question asks voters if the State of Illinois should tighten controls for gun dealers:

"Should the State of Illinois strengthen penalties for the illegal trafficking of firearms and require all gun dealers to be certified by the State?"

Cook County voters will also be asked on two separate questions if their respective municipalities should increase minimum wage to $13 per hour and if workers should receive guaranteed sick time.

"Shall the minimum wage in your municipality match the $13 per hour Cook County minimum wage law for adults over the age of 18 by July 1, 2020, and be indexed to the consumer price index after that?"
"Shall your municipality match the Cook County earned sick time law which allows for workers to earn up to 40 hours (5 days) of sick time a year to take care of their own health or a family member's health?"

Many home-rule municipalities opted out of Cook County's minimum wage and sick leave ordinances, keeping the local minimum wage at $8.25 an hour.
